Do a hiking marathon she said…

It will be fun she said…it will be easy she said. They were right and they were wrong!  Who is she?  She is the little voice in my head that wants me to live life fully.  She has been nagging at me for the last few years.  I have named her Frankie after the Lily Tomlin character in the Netflix show ‘Grace and Frankie’. Although I never had it as totally together as Grace seemed to had it, I was certainly uptight and worried about appearances.  You know the “what will the neighbors think” or whoever will think type.  Always worried that I must do the right thing, the proper…

    Loving and missing my tribe

tribe trīb/ noun      1.  a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized leader.        I love my tribe – most I have known for 30 years!  We have been through a lot together and I am glad to say that the bad times were made easier because of them.  My friends that I hung out with on Saturday night helped me tremendously when my husband had open heart surgery 16 years ago.  They were there to watch my son, pick me up and take…

    Can you go back?

There is a saying that you can’t go back home again.  After a trip back to Chicago for Memorial Day all I can say is that there is no going back…only going forward. I needed to get my hair cut and colored and I only trust Dee ~ the lady who has cut and colored my hair for the last 12 years.  I love her. Not only does she do great work, she has talked me out of hairstyles that she knows will not work for me ~ such as having a super short pixie cut.  She is also a freakin’ pro at color.  I used to work in the…

Who knew a city girl would love a wheelbarrow?

This is my wheelbarrow.  It came with the house that we bought in Tennessee.  I almost got rid of it when we first bought the house because I figured that I had no use for it.   I love to garden and when I lived in the city, my gardening basically was just planting flowers in pots for the front porch and the deck. Here in Tennessee I have a house that, in my opinion, needed a lot of help with the landscaping .  The house we bought had been rented out for several years and the renters were not gardeners and the owner…

    Living between two worlds….

Back in July 2017, I was still living and working in Chicago and my husband had his vacation and was down at our home in Tennessee.  I would fly down on weekends to be with him. There was this one particular Friday night that I had booked the 6:20 p.m. flight. The flight was delayed — big shock!!!  Apparently the airline forgot to schedule a pilot for the flight!!!  When they finally got a pilot there at 7:30 they loaded us on the plane and we backed away from the gate…then there were engine problems and we didn’t take off until 9 p.m.  Gotta love these airlines. But something really…

    One Month In…

Well, I have made it a whole month in Tennessee and several weeks with just me and my ‘boys’.  I like my job ~ 3 days is enough to work.  Keeps me out of trouble and the money is my play money so to speak.  Last week I worked all 5 days as the girl I work with had the flu.  At the end of the week I was exhausted – don’t know how I did it before.  But as my husband pointed out I didn’t have to take the dogs out 4 times a day.  In Chicago we have a fenced in yard – so it was easy to…

Week #1 is in the books!

Well, week one is in the books.  The move has been completed and I am almost totally settled in.  My husband came with to make sure I got to Tennessee safely and that everything in the house was in working order!  He went back to Chicago on Friday because a winter storm was on its way and he had to be back to work on Sunday.  I have just a little work left on my closet.  And then I am pretty much settled into the house. Week one of the part time job is completed and rather successfully!  This office is different than the one in Chicago – it’s much…

    #littlegoalsbigdreams ~ part 2

Today is January 5, 2018….I have retired from full time work as of November 22nd and am packing today to move tomorrow full time to Tennessee from Chicago.  I’m going from a big vibrant city to a small town in the middle south.  Actually to a retirement/resort community.  I am going from being one of the old people on my block (I’m almost 58) to being a youngster!  I love it at our Tennessee home – I have a gorgeous view of the Cumberland Mountains, lakes and plenty of open spaces near by. How did I get here?  Well the plan was always to retire to Tennessee but just not…

    #littlegoalsbigdreams

I have met some really interesting people in life.  I love to talk to people everywhere I go – this is a somewhat recent behavior for my in the last few years.  My one friend teases me about how I will talk to anybody and lately I make friends where ever I go.  Last December I was waiting at O’Hare for a flight to Nashville and as usual – the airline was running late.  There was a girl sitting by herself and she was waiting too.  We talked briefly but I went back to scrolling thru Facebook.  We finally boarded and I got my window seat and put on my…

    Wanderlust

wan·der·lust ˈwändərˌləst/ noun a strong desire to travel. “a man consumed by wanderlust” Wanderlust…there’s a word that I can relate to.  Today I got back from an overnight trip to Milwaukee to see the Chicago Cubs play the Milwaukee Brewers.  I went with a group of about 14 to celebrate my best friends birthday.  The last one of her birthdays in her 50s.  Unfortunately my husband had to work and I went solo…I’m used to that.  His job as a Chicago police sergeant means that I do stuff on my own with our friends. We had a great time celebrating and cheering on our Cubs.  It was great to get…
